HTC Mull VR Launch For OZ CES Launch Tipped

HTC who is struggling to hold onto smartphone market share in Australia is set launch their new Virtual Reality offering in partnership with Valve at CES 2016 according to sources.

The Taiwanese Company is still trying to work out how to launch their new offering in Australia without having to spend millions on advertising.

The HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) has several components and is tipped to be expensive in Australia.

Key is the Room Scale user tracking technology that separates the platform from rivals like the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.

HTC executive Graham Breen recently revealed that there will be five items in the HTC VR Kit which is set to be exposed in its full glory at CES in January.

The components will consist of two base stations, two hand controllers and the headset, you will also need a PC.

When you have one of the new HTC VR headsets on the framerate moves at exactly the same time as your head does which is why you need a PC to process the content being delivered to the screen.

The base stations will help track users as well as the movements of the mentioned controllers direct to the PC.

The HTC Vive is the result of a partnership between HTC and Valve.

The latter brings its SteamVR system to the kit, making it the first to support Room Scale user tracking, in which players can walk around an area of up to 5 metres by 5 metres and have those movements replicated within the given experience.

This also allows for positional-tracking for the two SteamVR controllers which are used to give players hand presence within a VR experience.
