HTC Sensation Facing Antenna Issues Prior To OZ Launch?

A new Smartphone that HTC Australia was banking on to take on the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the dual core Motorola Atrix has hit a problem after users of the new Sensation claimed that the handset was suffering from iPhone-like antenna issues. HTC has rejected their claims.

Across several forum sites reports have appeared that claim that the aluminium construction of the phone will interfere with Bluetooth, WI-Fi and mobile signal when held in a certain position and that the strength of a signal is affected by the design and construction of the Sensation.

A video has been posted to YouTube highlighting the problem.

Tech Radar said that the main difference to Apple’s Antenna-Gate is users will have to hold the phone in a pretty weird way to see the attenuation, something HTC told us when we reached out to see if this was an issue:

“No. Every phone experiences a slight variation in signal strength when the antenna is covered in its entirety by a palm or fingers, however under normal circumstances this does not affect the performance of the phone,” a spokesperson told TechRadar.

Recent reviews that SmartHouse has seen including our own Trusted Reviews analysis of the new Sensation make no reference to the problem.

The Sensation which is currently being reviewed by Telstra is expected to be on sale next month in Australia.
