iiNet Unleash NBN Wireless $49 + 30GB

Internode announce wireless NBN service – kicking off at $49 from today

The announcement means the ISP has arrived at holy trinity of NBN services –  via fibre, wireless and satellite.

Prices for National Broadband Network wireless starts at $49 for 12/1 Mbps speeds “in theory” and 30GB data, while $69 plan gives a massive 300GB, $89 600GB and $139 for one terabyte (TB).

Internode NBN wireless broadband is now available to Armidale northern NSW residents, and will cover around 770 premises and traditional blackspots.

The theoretical peak maximum download speed is 12 megabits per second, and upload is 1Mbps, Internode said today, but admitted “real world usage is unlikely to consistently achieve such speeds.”

The NBN Fixed Wireless service needs a directional external antenna installed at the premises, and will give “more consistent” broadband than other mobile broadband and offer coverage for regional areas that will not receive fibre-based NBN.

The service will provide broadband coverage to four per cent of the population – about 500,000 premises by 2015, Internode believes.

The service offers free setup for customers who sign a 24-month contract, discounts off routers, an included NodePhone VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone service and the ability to port an existing telephone number to NodePhone.

The service will deliver broadband to customers living in lower-density areas, says Internode product manager Jim Kellett.

“Although some premises may currently have ADSL or 3G mobile broadband coverage, in most cases there are few or no broadband alternatives, so it’s great news for the people who live there.”
