Intel Drops McAfee

Intel drops McAfee name, offers free mobile security for Android amd iPads.Intel CEO Brian Krzanich unveiled Intel Security brand at CES overnight, and revealed plans to ‘transition’ from the McAfee brand.

Intel now plans to offer “elements” of security for Apple iPads, iPhone and Android mobile devices for free.
The move could be an attempt by Intel to distance itself from John McAfee, founder of the security company which Intel later acquired, who of late has found himself in controversy. McAfee said he is elated by the move.
“I am now everlastingly grateful to Intel for freeing me from this terrible association with the worst software on the planet. These are not my words, but the words of millions of irate users,” he told BBC.
The Intel Security brand will retain the familiar red shield, however.
“The complexity of keeping digital identities safe grows as mobile applications and devices become a more important part of our daily lives,” Krzanich said.
“Intel’s intent is to intensify our efforts dedicated to making the digital world more secure, and staying ahead of threats to private information on mobile and wearable devices.”
As corporate “bring-your-own-device” programs have grown, many firms banned Android-based devices that failed to meet security requirements.
Intel says Device Protection technology, will help Intel-based Android mobile devices meet most security standards, it claims.
“The complexity of keeping digital identities safe grows as mobile applications and devices become a more important part of our daily lives,” he added.
