It’s Just Not Profitable: Joyce Mayne Shuts Shop

Harvey Norman-owned Joyce Mayne store to shut in NSW.

Harvey Norman Chairman, Gerry Harvey, blamed the store closure at Wagga Wagga, NSW on its small size and lack of profitability. 

“It’s just not profitable,” he told Daily Advertiser, who reported the closure.
“I don’t think a shop that size is making money anywhere in Australia.”  
“These (smaller) size stores … find it hard to compete with the larger format stores.” 
There are Joyce Mayne’s located nearby at Albury, Nowra and  Warrawong. 

The Wagga store at Homebase Centre, 7-23 Hammond Avenue sells appliances, and consumer electronics like TVs, PC’s.
The shop has been open since 2006 when it took over Retravision, according to the report. 
A store employee said “its hard to say” when queried about why the store was shutting,when contacted by CN
 

It recently ran several promos including ‘Coffee Expo!’, promoting ‘deals on manual, automatic & capsule coffee machines’ and a Washers & Dryers promo, as listed on its Facebook site. 

 Dick Smith, JB Hi Fi, The Good Guys still operate in the regional NSW town.
A store employee at The Good Guys, Wagga said businesses was “fine..all good,” when contacted by CN this afternoon.
The Joyce Mayne at Wagga is to kick off a closing down sale from 01 June until its last day of trading on 30 June.
