Japanese TV Vendors Move Away From Low End

Japan-based TV vendors appear to be taking a less aggressive stance in the lower end of the TV market as competition in this area has become much tighter, according to the DIGITIMES website.

DIGITIMES reported today that the competition in the lower end has intensified over the past few years, due mainly to increased competition from Chinese vendors.

The website reported that Japan-based TV vendors, such as Pansonic, Sony and Sharp, are “all reportedly planning to focus more on high-end units to remain profitable and aim to have more value-added features
and services with their products.”

These Japanese vendors will instead “focus mainly on high-end TVs such as Ultra HD units.”

Companies like Vizio, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics meanwhile “have a stronger foothold in the North America market and Japan vendors are finding it increasingly difficult to compete in the lower-priced segment while higher-end units are seeing more success.”

The website reported that Chinese vendors meanwhile, are gaining access to lower-priced components for 32-inch units aimed at China and other emerging markets.
