Finally, a dock DESIGNED for use with Apple’s lightning-connector devices. The OnBeat Micro is from JBL and by their admission it’s the world’s first speaker dock to use Apple’s lightning connector. However, we think they’ve tied with Bose, who also announced a similar next generation dock today.
The small black dock complements an iPhone 5’s brushed aluminium body with its black grille. Beneath it are two custom JBL transducers which, combined with JBL’s digital signal processing (DSP) technology, produces sound with “great bass, clear vocals and impressive clarity.”
The lightening connector ensures an iPhone 5, a 5th generation iPod Touch and a 7th generation iPod Nano can play music without unattractive wiring. Other Apple products reliant upon the old 30 point pin standard will still work with the dock via USB, as will any other music device compatible with an auxiliary audio input.

Pop in 4 x AAA batteries and the OnBeat Micro goes portable, delivering 5 hours of music playback when you’re on the go. Although batteries are not included, the OnBeat Micro’s $129 pricetag is low enough to keep it in our good books.
