Nokia’s new Lumia 900 Windows phone has dropped to just $49 over 24 months in the USA.Nokia Australia is not saying whether they will slash the price of the device in Australia. One owner contacted by SmartHouse claims that Nokia should rebate current owners.
The device that cannot be upgraded to the new Windows 8, or run Microsoft’s new Office or Explorer 10 software, went on sale in Australia two months ago. A Telstra retail store Manager in Sydney said that the device is “not selling well up against Android devices and the iPhone 4”.

Nokia spokesman Keith Nowak admits the Windows device is not selling well which is the main reason why Nokia has slashed the purchase price of the device.
Shortly after the announcement Nokia shares fell in New York.
The price cut comes as Nokia’s smartphone performance is being slammed by analysts who are now predicting that the Company will continue to struggle selling Windows phones as brands like Samsung, LG and HTC get set to launch new Windows 8 smartphones.
Featuring a 4.3-inch screen, 1.4-gigahertz processor and 8-megapixel camera, the Lumia 900 uses largely untried software from Microsoft. Telstra is selling the device on a $60 a month plan.
Sales have been slow, and Nokia took a further hit when Microsoft said current phones will be unable to run its new Windows 8 software, rendering them obsolete.
Last month, Nokia said it would cut 10,000 jobs, and that its handset business would post a larger-than-expected quarterly loss. All three major credit rating agencies have downgraded Nokia to ‘junk’ status.
