Keeping Track Of The Kids

All parents want to keep track of what their children are up to, however often giving a child a mobile phone is not the best way to achieve that.

Nightmare bills and not being able to control who your children are calling are just two of the factors that discourage many parents from giving their child a mobile.

Telstra has come up with a clever solution to the problem with a new handset and service that allows you to keep your children safe without worrying about what they are getting up to with their mobile phones.

The solution consists of the TicTalk handset and the Kids in Touch service. Calls made to and from the TicTalk handset are preset through a Web page.

Parents can store up to 22 contacts in two categories: Anytime Calling Lists (numbers can be used at any time), and Reward Calling Lists (numbers can be used as a treat when appropriate, such as friends).

Other features include:

· The ability to control mobile usage – parents can preset the amount of time calls can be made to each group
· Send messages with preset response options
· Organisational tools so the parent can put entries in their calendar, such as homework reminders
· Learning tools

There are three post-paid plans available with the service: $15, $20 and $30. The TicTalk handset can be bought outright for $259.
