Kodak Active Pocket Cams Take A Beating

Kodak has released a new generation of pocket HD video cameras for the casual party shooter and the outdoors sporty user.

Kodak has brought in a new generation of the PlaySport pocket cam for the more extreme user, while introducing the PlayFull pocket cam for the casual user.

The PlayFull video camera is a handheld, slim camera that captures 1080p HD video or five megapixel still images, tailored to the social networker.

Kodak claims to have the simplest sharing with its other digital compacts, and the company continues in this tradition with a dedicated ‘Share Button.’

The share function lets users email videos or upload them straight to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or a range of other content and social media sites straight from the camera.

Digital image stabilisation reduces the blur and tremor, while face tracking technology keeps the focus. Built-in editing and effects functions let users trim and extract still images from videos they’ve shot to get that perfect Facebook profile photo.

Unlike bigger compact cams, the camera is charged via USB (along with USB file sharing). There’s also up to 32GB of SD/SDHC card space available.

The PlayFull is set to be released in Autumn for $199 in either blue, silver or purple.

Topping the PlayFull is the 2011 version of the PlaySport that comes with weatherproof casing for the adventurous snapper.

Weatherproofing includes being shockproof, dustproof and waterproof up to 10 feet. Under the hood is the capability to take 1080p videos and five megapixel stills.

The camera features auto-focus and a white balance function dedicated to underwater shots. It has improved low-light performance for tackling shots underwater also.

Otherwise, the PlaySport features all of the same extras as the PlayFull including ‘share’ button and in-built editing functions. Both pocket cams are compatible with remote control functionality.

The PlaySport is slated for an Autumn release for $249, available in white and aqua.
