LCD High: Samsung 5.7m ‘Record’ TV Sales

Black Friday wasn’t so black after all: the biggest day in the US shopping calendar has propped up Samsung TV sales – pushing global sales to 5.7 million units for November, it said on Thursday.
The stellar figure was attributed to US sales over Thanksgiving holiday weekend, reports Reuters, and pulls the Koreans out of the deep doldrums its giant TV business has been in, of late.

Back with a bang: Samsung LCD’s on the up.

The figure marks a 14% jump on the 5m sets sold during October, and could mean Samsung remains the top television maker for the sixth year running, beating the likes of Sharp, Sony and LG – a welcome development amid tight margins, intense competition and sluggish demand thanks to the global financial turmoil.

LED TV accounted for 70 percent of all flat TV sales, indicating a move away from LCD category, Samsung said.

Black Friday (the day after Thankgiving) also helped drive sales up, where US consumers spent $7.4 billion more than they did a year ago.

Sales gained as much as 40% on that single day alone.
