Its Official: 5th gen iPhone will see the light of day October 04, as per reports last week.

The “event” will be held on October 4 at Apple’s Cupertino, Calif. campus. begining at 10:00 am local time.
The simple invite which began with the utterance “Lets talk iPhone” comes after months of endless speculation on the release date of the over hyped fifth generation iPhone.
But will it be worth the wait?
Apple, as secretive as ever gave nothing else away – no specs, no price, pictures – using only calendar, clock, caps and phone icon images as part of the invitation.
Rumoured specs of i5 include larger screen, 512MB RAM, Near Field Communication (NFC) for mobile payments, 8-megapixel sensor, and a polysilicon low temperature HD display.
Another secret “transition” could also be part of iPhone 5 mixed bag, as referred to by Apple CFO, Peter Oppenheimer in July, although it is not certain it was smartphones he was referring to.
A budget iPhone 4 is also thought to be part of the launch, the first by new CEO Time Cook and the first ever without Steve Jobs at the helm although there are rumours floating about that he may make a surprise appearance.

According to AllThingsD, expect sale of ‘5’ “within a few weeks” after the announcement.
Just this week,Vodafone announced a ‘mystery’ smartphone was on the way, set to be the “biggest release of the year” which is almost certainly i5, although gave nothing away on dates or specs although is giving Infinte plan users exclusive access.
Just two weeks to go now, iPhone’ers.
