LG Has Another Crack At Smart Watches

LG who have struggled in both the Smartwatch and smartphone market despite delivering some excellent technology is again having a crack at trying to breathe life into their smart watch business.

LG has apparently applied for trademarks for several new monikers that look like new products for 2017.

Some insiders are tipping a release at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress an event that also struggling to hold onto big launch events.

Among the new LG range is tipped to be the Watch Style, the Watch Pro, the Watch Force and the Watch Sole. We’d hazard a guess that, rather than four completely new models, LG will in fact unveil a brand-new smartwatch that will come in four different designs.

The multi-design launch has been an ever-growing theme on the smartwatch scene. Michael Kors recently uncovered a duo of Access Android Wear devices – the Bradshaw and the Dylan; Samsung’s latest smartwatch – the Gear S3 – comes in two flavours: The Classic and the Frontier; and Apple, of course, has several editions of its Series 2 smartwatch, with collaborations from the likes of Hermes, Toms and Nike.

LG was one of the original Android Wear members (alongside Korean stablemate Samsung) when it launched its imaginatively named LG Watch in early 2014. It followed that up with a duo of slick looking Google-powered smartwatches: the LG G Watch R and the LG Watch Urbane, and then there was the curious case of the cancelled, then reinstated, LG Watch Urbane LTE second edition – which was the first Android Wear device to offer mobile connectivity.

LG also turned to webOS in 2015 for a special edition Watch Urbane with LTE features, in collaboration with Audi.

However, after that initial blast of several launches, 2016 has been all quiet on the LG smartwatch front except for their V20 which is a cracker of a smartphone.
