Fuelled by a relentless desire to topple market leaders through innovation, LG has managed to overtake Apple as the number two handset maker in the US.
LG’s first premium smartphone in years, the Optimus G, has helped the Korean company snatch second place from Apple. According to Yonhap News Agency, LG’s share of all mobile devices in the US rose to 13% in the month of December, which was just ahead of Apple’s 12%.
Samsung nabbed the lion’s share of the market at 33%, while Motorola and HTC owned 9% and 8% respectively.
Recently LG announced 1 million Optimus Gs have been sold in North America. The Optimus G has not gone on sale locally, but LG has previously stated the smartphone will be released some time during the first quarter of 2013.

The Optimus G features Qualcomm’s S4 Pro chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal memory. It features a 4.7 inch HD screen, a 13MP rear camera, 4G LTE connectivity, next generation Miracast technology and a 2,100mAh battery.
