LG Releases More Details About Their New 55″ OLED TV

LG Electronics has issued more details about their new 55-inch FullHD 1080p OLED TV which will be released at the 2012 CES Show next week.

The Company said the new panel will be ultra-thin while being capable of delivering richer and truer colour reproduction, and a 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio that is said to be 50 times greater than today’s LED-backlit LCD displays.

The panel refresh rate is also superior to today’s flat-panel sets, at less than 0.1 microseconds. Such speed enables the OLED TV to display rapid movements and motion with more realistic clarity, LG said.

LG has also developed a Triple XD engine to drive the picture with Dynamic Color Enhancer, a Contrast Optimizer and a Resolution Upscaler.

“The OLED TV is the ultimate display device, a culmination of the sophisticated technological advances made by LG,” stated James Fishler, LG Electronics go-to-market operations senior VP. “This next-generation display will further strengthen LG’s position as a true leader and trend-setter of the home entertainment industry. It is the TV of dreams.”

Like most 3D capable sets, the model 55EM9600 OLED display will present images in both 2D and 3D and feature a 2D-to-3D conversion system for viewing standard 2D material with a realistic 3D effect.

The set’s cosmetic styling features a new ultra-slim bezel that is central to LG’s 2012 Cinema Screen Design. Because OLED technology does not require a lamp or bulky support structures, panel depth is just 4mm (3/16ths of an inch) thin, and the set’s weight is 16.5 pounds. The panel can also be mounted on a wall with virtually no space between the panel and wall.

The new TV could cost over $8,000 in Australia.
