LG Set To Reveal New QD TV Technology At CES 2015

LG has started their annual CES leak campaign with the Korean Company announcing its first QD-equipped TV, with 4K resolution.

LG claim the new TV’s quantum dot technology delivers a
wider colour palette and improved saturation compared to standard LCD TVs.

“Quantum dot’s vibrant and vivid colour reproduction
capabilities brings LG’s LCD TVs to the next level when it comes to picture
quality,” said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor
division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

“The addition of ULTRA HD TV with quantum dot technology to
our TV line-up positioned under our award-winning OLED TVs further establishes
LG as a leading provider of the most diverse and innovative TV display
technologies in the industry.”

LG claims the new technology delivers an increase in “colour
reproduction rate” of 30 percent.

“The technology works by harnessing nano crystals that
range in size from 2 to 10 nanometers. Each dot emits a different colour
depending on its size. By adding a film of quantum dots in front of the LCD
backlight, picture colour reproduction rate and overall brightness are
significantly improved.” In-kyu Lee said.

LG said that new technology contains no cadmium or any other
toxic metals.

It didn’t release any other details about the TV, including
size(s), price, and model number or shipping date.

Also set to introduce similar technology at CES 2015 is the
struggling Chinese Company TCL.
