EXCLUSIVE: Leading Australian music retailer Sanity has killed off their MP3 download service “Loadit”. No official explanation has been given. This is the same Company that two years ago said that they were going to partner with Microsoft to deliver content for Windows-based devices.
Loadit which was launched last year offered 1,000,000+ tracks, charts, freebies, exclusives, playlists plus all the gossip on the music and video industry.
However a lack of interest in the service which was not well known has led to the Company issuing a statement to those who did sign up that the service has been terminated and that a refund was being offered.
Kassandra Wood the recently appointed marketing manager for Sanity said “we have killed off the service and issued refunds. I am not aware why senior management killed off the service”.
She also said that she knew of no deal with Microsoft and was unaware of any ongoing deal to deliver content to Vista devices as announced by both Microsoft and sanity at the 2007 launch of the Vista operating system in Australia.
After Sanity launched its Australian Loadit music subscription service in September 2008 Lifehacker said , there were muffled complaints about the price, but the biggest complaints of all came from users who didn’t want the Loadit button appearing in their Windows Media Player by default.
Lifehacker claimed that the Loadit store is automatically added when you check for updates, and by the time you realise it has appeared, it’s a bit late to do anything about it. If you don’t want to have Loadit in your face every time you play a song or video clip, do you have any choice? Lifehacker explores your options.
