Losing Streak: Dell Kills 7″ Honeycomb Tab

After less than a year, Dell has binned its Streak, the tab Optus introduced just days ago.
Lacking any official announcement, the absence of the 7 inch Android Streak on Dell.com is only apparent when you attempt to purchase it and the following announcement appears:

“Streak 7 is no longer available online, but you can browse our other mobile devices for similar products.”

Dell are now pushing the Inspiron Duo as an alternative tablet device for US$499 on its US website.

However, Dell did confirm in a statement the 7 inch Android was still available “in many markets through retail, distributors, and carrier partners such as Optus in Australia.”

Dell in the water: Streak 7 discontinued.

Just last month, Optus announced the availability of the Dell among its tablet line up for Christmas, which runs Honeycomb 3.2 for $29 on Optus’ Tablet plan or $279 upfront on SIM plan. The Dell Android is “light and nimble” with a Tegra T20 dual Core processor and a 5MP auto focus camera.

Dell’s statement appears to suggest it will be continued via retail partners like Optus, which the telco confirmed to SmartHouse today.

“We will still be selling the Dell Streak 7 as usual,” a company spokesperson said.

No word on why Dell pulled Streak from the US but reviews were far from over complimentary. And the PC giant appears to be on a mostly losing streak with its tablets, to date. In August, it announced it would also kill Streak 5.

BlackBerry has wrote down the value of its (unsold) tablets holed up in warehouses by almost US$500m, meaning its PlayBook tablet venture has been a costly mistake, unless sales pick up drastically.

And lets not forget Hewlett Packard, whose premature decision to ditch TouchPad Web OS, sent its profits into free-fall, plunging 92% in its most recent financials. Ouch.
