With a fifth series just confirmed, Don Drapers & Co’s antics for a whole additional two hours on film?… it seems the Mad Men can get madder.

Well Mad Men, The Movie, could be more than wishful thinking, according to the VP of TV for Lionsgate, the producers of the cult show set in a New York 1960’s advertising agency.
The Golden Globe winning series has been “tipped [for] a theatrical film on the horizon,” said Barbara Wall, speaking at the Astra Pay TV conference held in Sydney yesterday.
And it seems Mad Men fans can breathe another sigh of relief with media reports indicating the 5th series has been given the go ahead after talks being stalled, although it will not be out until March next year.
The third series is to be shown later this year on SBS.
However, creator Matthew Weiner and AMC executives have yet to agree on some terms which could lead to further delays.
“All I want to do is continue to make my show and make it in the way I want to with the people I want to make it with,” Weiner told the New York Times.
“AMC has officially authorised production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate.
“While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012,” AMC network confirmed in a statement yesterday.
And as digital video recorders (DVR) grow, expect more series’ from the giant, as “demand for narrative is insatiable,” says Wall.
Lionsgate also make other leading titles like Nurse Jackie, Weeds and also the 2005 Oscar winning movie, Crash.
