A 7.85 inch iPad Mini is set to be launched this month by Apple, six months after the death of Steve Jobs who said that such a device was “doomed to failure”.New CEO Tim Cook, who oversaw the launch of the “flawed” iPhone 5 late last month, is behind the move to launch the new mini iPad which will be launched later this month according to several sources.
Fortune Magazine claims Apple will host an event on Oct. 17 to introduce the new Mini with a launch date of Nov. 2 tipped. According to “a major Apple investor” who’s talked to “multiple sources,” Apple is planning on sending press invitations to a Mini-themed event Oct. 10.
Last week Apple CEO Tim Cook issued a formal apology for the new iPhone 5 poor map service which includes irrelevant search results, transplanted state capitals and melting bridges.
Google has confirmed that it’s working on a map app to submit to the App Store that will be available in several months. But it’s also improving Google Maps for Apple users.
In other Mini news, a video purporting to show a near-complete mock-up of the 7.85-inch tablet also surfaced Monday.
The device in the video has no active UI, though it shows Apple’s new Lightning dock connector, volume controls, hold and power buttons, speakers, and a home button.
