Mobile Theatre: Sony Introduces Short-Throw Projector

Sony has entered the portable mobile projector market with its new MP-CL1 handheld projector, set to land in the Australian market from January next year.Employing a laser light source, the MP-CL1 delivers HD images (1920 x 720) with high contrast (80,000:1) for accurate colour rendition, displaying a screen size of up to 120″ at a distance of 3.45 metres.

The MP-CL1 features a built-in speaker, with Sony stating it is “suitable for both home and mobile entertainment, business presentations, as well as for the display of content from smartphones or tablets”.

The MP-CL1 sports HDMI connectivity, interfacing with smartphones or tablets via MHL, with a built-in screen mirroring function allowing users to wirelessly mirror content from a smartphone, tablet or PC via Wi-Fi.

Sony states that employing its Laser Beam Scanning (LBS) technology, the MP-CL1 can project images at

HD resolution, enabling “focus-free projection as well as seamless viewing, even on uneven surfaces”.

“With the addition of auto-focus, the projector can keep constant, uninterrupted focus at various distances without the need for manual adjustments,” Sony states. “Thanks to LBS, images projected will not have residual lag, including videos with action scenes.”

Keystone correction also maintains both horizontal and vertical screen uniformity, despite angled surfaces.

The MP-CL1 sports an aluminium body with a matte finish, is equipped with a built-in 3400 mAh battery, providing up to 120 minutes of HD resolution playback, and also includes an HDMI to mini-HDMI adapter, micro-USB cable and a detachable two-way stand.

The MP-CL1 will carry a price tag of $699 RRP. Further information can be found here.
