The Australian subscription video-on-demand market is set to become more crowded, with NBCUniversal International to launch hayu, which it states is the first all-reality service of its kind, in March.Priced at $5.99 per month with no contract and available across mobile, tablet, laptop and connected TV, at launch hayu will include over 3,000 episodes of reality content.
NBCUniversal states 500-plus episodes will be added each year, “the majority of which will debut on the service on the same day as they premiere in the US”.
Reality shows featuring on hayu will include Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The Real Housewives, Million Dollar Listing and Top Chef franchises, I Am Cait, Made in Chelsea, Flipping Out, Shahs of Sunset and The Millionaire Matchmaker.
Along with its content line-up, NBCUniversal states “hayu will offer users specially made short-form content snippets”, which will be selected from original episodes, and which can be shared directly via fans’ social media

accounts.
Integrated with newsfeeds from multiple sources, hayu will also include “full social media integration alongside the videos, allowing viewers instant access to the social media accounts of hundreds of reality’s hottest stars, as well as allowing fans to share their own comments”.
Customers will receive a 30-day free trial when they sign up.
