NBN Transition Nearing For Parts Of Western Sydney

A number of western Sydney suburbs are set to become the first in Sydney to complete the transition to the NBN throughout February and March, which will see the replacement of most existing landline phone and internet services.NBN Co has advised that in total around 20,000 homes and businesses will make the transition to the NBN across parts of Penrith from February 20, followed by parts of Blacktown, Homebush, Riverstone, Richmond/Windsor and Lidcombe from March 20.

The move to the NBN, however, is not automatic, with NBN Co urging homes and businesses in the region to contact their preferred internet service provider or phone company to make the switch.

“The remaining residents and businesses in these areas need to move their landline phone and internet services over to the NBN if they wish to continue using them,” commented NBN Co spokesperson Darren Rudd. “They have a choice whether to switch across or to make do with mobile solutions.

“We are particularly urging people with special equipment, including eftpos terminals and medical and security alarms which operate using a landline phone connection, to contact their preferred phone company and internet service provider as soon as possible.”

NBN Co last week announced that more than 700 homes and businesses are set to become the first in the Northern Territory to complete the transition to the NBN, with the NBN scheduled to progressively replace existing services in parts of Darwin City, starting from February 20.

NBN Co states that more than 95,000 homes and businesses are already connected to the NBN in NSW.
