NEC To Partner NBN On Roll Out

NEC Corp has just signed a deal with the government to help on NBN.

The communications giant will provide its expertise on broadband access systems, advanced robotics for aged care, and road to vehicle communication systems, it was announced yesterday. 

Under its memorandum of understanding, NEC will advise the government on new innovations which capitalises on the rollout of the NBN including video conferencing and traffic management technology were two areas singled out where the network would help improve quality of life for Australians.  

“Streamlined management of
traffic flows will assist reducing the impact
of congestion on our natural and built environment,” according to the statement issued.

“The Gillard Government welcomes the opportunity to work with NEC, a leader in research and development, in Australia to capitalise on the drive towards the digital economy,” Communication minister, Senator Stephen Conroy said.   

The tech sharing deal is similar to the one agreed with Intel in October last.  

“It further signals the Government’s intention to collaborate with industry to deliver an NBN-enabled digital economy,” Senator Conroy added.  

 

The President of NEC Corporation, Mr Nobuhiro Endo, signed the deal on NEC’s behalf in Melbourne yesterday.
