Fresh from a series of high level strategy meetings, Canon Australia, is set to launch a brand-new digital camera range that includes a brand new consumer SLR model, in an effort to hold onto its market leadership position, which is under attack from brands like Panasonic, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and Samsung.
Among the new portfolio of products is an 18-megapixel SLR that records full-HD 1080p video, as well as a new range of Powershot compact cameras.

The new Canon Rebel T2i d-SLR camera delivers 3.7 fps still shooting, an ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800), a 63-zone Dual Layer Metering System, 3-inch 1.04 million dot LCD screen with a 3:2 widescreen aspect ratio and Canon’s DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor.
A big benefit for Canon, which has struggled in the camcorder market, is the video features of its new SLR consumer flagship, which captures video up to full-HD 1080p resolution with manual exposure control, selectable frame rates and a new external microphone input. Video resolution levels and frame rates supported by the camera include FullHD 1920 x 1080 at 30 (29.97), 25 or 24 (23.976) fps, and HD 1280 x 720 or standard definition 640 x 480, at 60 (59.94) or 50 fps.
For standard-definition video shooting, the camera adds a new Movie Crop function, which provides an approximate 7x additional zoom range with no loss of image quality when shooting SD quality video, Canon said.

model to support new SDXC memory cards. Other key features include Live View, a built-in pop-up flash, and the EOS integrated cleaning system, as well as compatibility with Canon EX-series Speedlites and Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
It also has a new RC-6 wireless remote control for both still images and video capture.
No pricing for Australia has yet been set.
