New 8K And Ultrathin Monitors From Dell

Dell have announced a range of new monitors for their 2017 product lineup, including the 27-inch Ultrathin Monitor and the UltraSharp Ultra HD 8K Monitor.

The 8K monitor is the world’s first 32-inch 8K display with more than 1 billion colours and 100% coverage of the Adobe RGB colour gamut. Designed for use in fields like graphics, design and photography, the 7680 by 4320 resolution display has a pixel density of 280ppi.

Alongside the UltraSharp monitor, the 27-inch Ultrathin monitor is also on display at CES 2017. Featuring an edge of just 6.9mm, the Dell has shifted the usual bulk required at the back of the monitor to the base.

The company describes the monitor as having “the world’s thinnest profile in its class”, with a Quad HD resolution and a 178-degree viewing angle. USB-C connectivity is included in the base with power support, alongside a HDMI 2.0 port and an audio out port.

Dell also revealed a new “horizontal smart workspace” called the Canvas. With a similar functionality to Microsoft’s Surface Studio announced last year, the monitor can be used at an angle or flat on a desk, allowing for touch, totem and pen capabilities.

Microsoft collaborated with Dell in the development of the Canvas, which features a 27-inch 2560×1440 Quad HD display compared to the 4500×3000 display of the Surface Studio. Dell told The Verge that the lower resolution was chosen to ensure the monitor works with a wider range of computers that would otherwise not be able to power such a high resolution.

Both the Dell 27 Ultrathin monitor (S2718D) and the Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor (UP3218K) will be available on Dell.com.au with pricing currently unconfirmed. Meanwhile the Dell Canvas will be available on March 30 with pricing also unconfirmed.
