New Apple iMac, Mac Pro Hinted To In Mountain Lion

Hidden deep within Apple’s Boot Camp software are lines of code detailing two new model numbers. These are MP60, believed to be the next Mac Pro Tower, and the IM130, a new iMac.

Currently the 27″ iMac dons the official model identifier iMac 12.2, giving the IM130 some credibility.

Both the current generation iMac and the Mac Pro Tower are mature products due for a refresh. In June, Apple overhauled its Macbook range of notebooks but didn’t touch its desktop range of computers.

According to TechRadar UK, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook responded to a customer’s email saying the company is “working on something really great for later next year.”

Apple’s top of the range MacBook Pro has ditched the optical drive, prioritising size above functionality

There is also speculation the new models will come without optical drives as the code resides in a section that allows machines to boot using a USB drive. Although daring, the move isn’t uncharacteristic of Apple as they ditched the optical drive first with their MacBook Air and then continued the tradition by omitting it from their bigger 15″ MacBook Pro.

Rumours have also suggested Apple’s renowned retina display will be standardised so apps and programs will look the same across its products.
