The Fujifilm Finepix X-E2s is a mirrorless “rangefinder” style camera, very reminiscent of the hallowed Leica M series in appearance. It is an update to the previous X-E2 which was released circa 2013.

The Fujifilm Finepix X-E2s is a mirrorless
“rangefinder” style camera, very reminiscent of the hallowed Leica M series in
appearance. It is an update to the previous X-E2 which was released circa 2013.

There are a number of major enhancements
over its predecessor including an improved hybrid AF system featuring a 77
point zone with tracking modes for moving objects, compared to the XE-2’s 49
points. Focussing speed is said to be a very respectable 0.06 of a second.

There is also a new electronic shutter with
shutter speeds up to 1/32000 sec with totally silent shooting and the ISO
rating has been upped to a new ceiling of 51200. Start-up time and shooting
interval are identical at an impressive 0.5 sec.

Other new features are a new menu interface
and the hand grip has been slightly modified and improved.

The main engine of the X-E2s is a 16.3Mp
CMOS sensor. There is an electronic OLED viewfinder with eye detection and 3″
LCD display as well as Wi-Fi.  It is
possible to capture 1080 / 60p video and there are a number of film simulation
modes included including old favourite, Chrome.

350g (without lens) and supplied with an XF 18-55mm lens sells for $1399

Fujifilm Finepix X70

If you are after a palm sized camera for
still photos that can also shoot video, then the Fujifilm X70 is just the
ticket. It has the same sensor as its bigger brother, the X-E2s, and comes with
a fixed 28mm F2.8 lens. There is no viewfinder, but the 3″ touchscreen does
tilt allowing viewing from different angles, flipping up 180 degrees and down
90 degrees. It also features touch-to-shoot and touch-to-focus capabilities and
a pinch to zoom function.

If you absolutely have to have a
viewfinder, there is an add-on hotshoe attachment coming.

There are direct controls for shutter speed
and exposure compensation and a dedicated aperture ring around the main lens
barrel. F-stops are at 1/3 stop intervals.

As well as the aperture ring, there is also
a focus ring at the front of the lens and this can be toggled to be as a
digital teleconverter if you wish when in auto focus mode.

Of course HD video can be shot with the X70
and there is face detect and eye detect features. Wi-Fi is built in.

The Fujifilm Finepix XP90 is a rugged
digital camera that is waterproof to 15 metres, shock proof from a maximum drop
of 1.75 metres; dustproof and even freeze proof to -10C, so perfect for the
outdoorsy sporting types who snorkel, swim, rock climb, snowboard/ski, or are a
boatie or fisho say. You wouldn’t want to use your smartphone’s camera in
locations and environments such as these!

To save water getting into the XP90, there
is a double lock mechanism on the battery / memory card compartment.

The processor of the XP90 combines with a
?.3 16.4 megapixel BSI CMOS and images can be captured at 10 frames / second at
full resolution and 6 fps at a reduced resolution. The built in interval timer
allows interval shooting of 10 and 5 minutes, 60 seconds, 30 seconds and 15
seconds and there is also a time lapse video function to convert time lapse
images into a video.

The lens offers a 5x optical zoom to a 28mm
wide angle with optical image stabilisation. Other features include Advanced
Art filters, High Dynamic Range Capture, Motion Panorama 360 degrees and HD
movie capture.

The Fujifilm Finepix XP90 has a recommended
retail price of $299.
