The Ixus 970 IS, 90 IS, and 85 IS comes with a 10-megapixel sensor and will have ‘intelligent features’ such as an Optical Image Stabilizer, Motion Detection Technology, and even Face Detection.

Canon Australia’s Product Manager for Digital Still Cameras, Kimbely Langton said, “Canon is very proud of the new additions to the IXUS range. These new models incorporate cutting-edge technology in compact, stylish camera bodies, perfect for capturing flawless photographs in any social setting.”

The new Ixus models come with an enhanced DiGIC III image processor, in-camera red-eye correction, and Face Detection with White Balance (WB) that ensures better-looking photos, says Canon.

The Ixus 970 IS comes with a 10-megapixel CCD sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabiliser, a 2.50inch PureColor LCD screen, and includes a Safety Zoom function that prevents image degradation when shooting distant subjects. The Ixus 90 IS also comes with a 10-megapixel sensor and 3 x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabiliser, but has a 3-inch LCD screen for a bigger view. Finally, the Ixus 85 is touted as the thinnest Ixus model but will have a 10-megapixel sensor, 3 x optical zoom lens, and 2.5-inch LCD screen.

Pricing and Availability

The Canon Ixus 970 IS, Ixus 90 IS, and Ixus 85 IS will be available from April 2008 and will have an RRP of $549, $479, and $429, respectively.
