EXCLUSIVE: I am going to make a pre Xmas prediction, that the new JB HI Fi Music Now streaming service is set to be one of the hottest new music services ever launched in Australia.I cannot reveal the pricing other than to say its highly competitive, but I have been shown the product by JB Hi Fi management and it’s one of the best subscription music services that I have ever seen for the simple reason that JB Hi Fi have done an excellent job of designing an interface around the music database which is capable of delivering millions of songs.
Set to be launched in Australia before Xmas for PCs notebooks, tablets and selected devices like the Sonos Wireless music system, the new service makes for an excellent Xmas present irrespective of age.
The way consumers get access to music in Australia is set to change with the launch of the JB Hi Fi service for the simple reason that JB Hi Fi is already the biggest seller of music and videos in Australia. They have a readymade audience who will be able to take complete control of their music database with the immediate delivery of music that matches their mood.
The new JB Hi Fi subscription service allows users to get instant access to metadata about their favourite artists while identifying similar artists and music categories. What I found impressive was the clean way that the information is laid out in front of you and when streamed to multiple devices such as a TV, tablets and smartphones which will happen in 2012, it will be easy to read due to excellent imagery and audio presentation.
Based on the Rovi Music system that contains a music database that covers 3 million popular and classical album releases and 28 million music tracks, the JB Hi Fi “Music Now” service goes beyond basic music descriptions to include editorial data, such as biographies, reviews, and related content.
Extensive music search and discovery capabilities as well as rich commerce support tools allow users to easily discover, manage and access digital music across multiple platforms and music devices.
According to Scott Browning the Marketing Director at JB Hi Fi the Music Now service will go live shortly. “This is a superior product to a lot of other music services that are out there and we are confident that it will appeal to Australians who want access to great music on multiple devices” he said.
