New Panasonic Camcorder Range Set For March Release

Panasonic has announced a range of new camcorders are set to land in the Australian market in March, including two new camcorders with 4K recording capability. In total, Panasonic is set to release six new camcorders at a range of price-points, from $299 RRP to $1,349 RRP.

Panasonic’s new 4K camcorders are equipped with a Leica Dicomar lens, an 8.29M back-illuminated sensor, and a Crystal Engine 4K processor, while 4K photo mode allows single frames to be extracted from 4K video.

A 4-drive lens system enables 20x optical zoom in 4K resolution, while high-speed, high-precision autofocus technology is designed to “capture the action perfectly”.

Panasonic’s new range of camcorders variously provide for a number of different features, including High Dynamic Range (HDR) movie functionality, recording shoots at 50 images per second, with 25 images exposing for highlights and 25 exposing for shadows, then combined in real time for “stunning, lifelike video with rich detail and balanced contrast between dark and light areas”.

Twin camera, meanwhile, consists of a sub-camera placed on the edge of the camcorder’s LCD monitor, capturing a second feed in a picture-in-picture format, with a plus or minus 20 degree tilt function.

Twin camera allows users to “to shoot different angles capturing two scenes simultaneously”, layering the images onto one file with a picture-in-picture effect.

Users can also pair their smartphone or tablet as the sub-camera via the wireless twin camera mode.

The baby monitor feature enables users to check on a sleeping baby in another room with the camcorder connected to a home network via smartphone, providing the capability to speak to the baby via smartphone, or to have notifications sent when crying, or another sound, is detected.

Other features include Panasonic’s Level Shot function, which automatically detects tilting and levels the image, while HYBRID OIS+ (optical image stabiliser) uses five-axis correction to “thoroughly suppress blurring”.

Panasonic’s new camcorder range are the: HC-WX970 (4K) $1,349 RRP, HC-VX870 (4K) $999 RRP, HC-V770 $849 RRP, HC-W570 $599 RRP, HC-V270 $399 RRP, and HC-V160 $299 RRP.
