New Samsung Galaxy S5 Has “Serious” Camera Problems Claims Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal is claiming that Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S5 has some serious camera problems.

The US publication claims that following the launch of the highly successful handset an undisclosed number of Galaxy S5 smartphones are experiencing camera glitches that render the smartphone’s camera inoperable.

“We have learned that a limited number of Galaxy S5 devices may have an issue that causes ‘Camera Failure’ pop-up error message,” a Samsung spokeswoman told the Journal in an email. “We ask that customers affected call us or visit their carrier for service under Samsung’s standard limited warranty.”

Samsung claims that they expect their new smartphone to outsell its predecessor and defy predictions that the South Korean titan’s latest model will struggle in a tough market for high-end handsets, a top executive said.

The world’s biggest smartphone maker has slashed prices of the S5, which rolled out globally two weeks ago, they are now offering a gift pack worth $US600, and more than doubled the number of initial launching countries to 125 in a bid to sustain growth in the mobile business, which generates 70 per cent of its total profit.

For the affected phones, which have been spread across multiple carriers in the U.S., the problem starts with an alert that pops up on S5 displays reading “Warning: Camera Failed.” From there, there is no way (as of yet) to fix the problem. Restarting the phone and going back to factory resets don’t help.

It is not known at this stage whether any owners are having problems in Australia.
