Last week Skype released an application for Apple’s highly sought iPad, but the VOIP boffins have been super busy releasing another important update for Apple Mac computers.

To make an HD video call, you’ll need to use your Mac’s in built HD webcam, or one like Logitech’s C910. The enhanced quality requires a faster internet connection, with a Skype blog post recommending an upload/download speed of 1.5Mps.
Contact management has also undergone a few tweaks with list and grid views being updated. PCmag state that contacts can be sorted by name, favourites, statuses and location simply by tapping the relevant column’s header.
Hovering your cursor over a contact in grid view displays a call shortcut, but the type of interaction can be configured from contact-to-contact.
The update works on Apple’s new Lion OS X but is also backwards compatible with software from Leopard onwards.
