Sony Australia has added two new series to its range of VAIO notebooks – the FZ series, a Blu-ray-enabled notebook and the TZ series, VAIO’s first flash-based hard drive notebook.
Australia’s Senior Product Manager for VAIO, Hiro Ishikawa said, “Sony is pleased to introduce these new notebooks to the popular VAIO line-up. The FZ and TZ series will reinforce the VAIO traditions of AV/IT convergence, mobility and style.”
VAIO TZ series
Sony claims that the TZ series is constructed using multi-layered and composite carbon fibre and is the perfect ultra-portable notebook computer for those who are looking for a striking balance between size, weight, and durability. The carbon fibre keeps the TZ series’ weight down to around 1.2kg, while its AC adaptor sports a more compact size to lessen the overall carrying weight of the TZ series.
The TZ’s flagship, the TZ18, is Sony’s first notebook that incorporates a flash-based HDD. What sets this kind of HDD apart from others is its faster boot-up times and operating speeds, reduction in weight, increased battery life, and stronger anti-shock components.
And what’s more, the TZ series sports a 11.1-inch WXGA screen with a power-saving LED illumination that helps extend battery life. Sony claims that this next-generation panel has an exceptional colour accuracy that makes photos, videos, and films more lifelike and convincing. The TZ series also has an InstantOn feature that allows a user to enjoy films and music without booting into Windows.

The FZ is capable of both editing and outputting Full HD video, making it an HD video-editing suite. The FZ series also has a lot of features that includes an integrated webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, and dedicated AV buttons for simple, convenient play control.
