New Symantec AntiVirus And Internet Security

Norton has announced the launch of Anti AntiVirus 2007 and Internet Security 2007, which it claims offers new phishing protection, an enhanced firewall, and defense against software vulnerabilities.

“Today’s threat landscape shows large, widespread virus outbreaks being replaced by groups of higher frequency, low-visibility attacks aimed at financial gain rather thannotoriety. Symantec has responded by developing sophisticated new security features that automatically identify and neutralise online threats without requiring users to make complicated decisions about their security,” said Symantec’s David Hall.

Symantec says virus writers are rapidly creating variations of existing malicious code rather than developing entirely new threats. To counter this, AntiVirus 2007 claims to  block attacks from entire worm and virus families without requiring individualsignatures for each new threat.

Other improvements include new tech to discover new types of viruses that use rootkits to hide themselves from security software as well as enhanced spyware scanning capabilities.

According to the company, Internet Security 2007 includes all the features found in Norton AntiVirus 2007 and adds transaction security technology that protects consumers against the latest online attacks to the bundle.

Symantec says the software is designed for Windows(r) XP Home/XP Pro users and is eligible for a free Windows Vista(tm) compatibility update.

RRP:
AntiVirus 2007: $60
Internet Security: $100
(Both include a one-year service subscription to use the product and receive protection updates).
