Whereis Navigator is available to Telstra subscribers for $15 per month, or $4 per day when used on a casual basis, with users signing up for a free seven-day trial before purchase.

Telstra Product Management, Executive Director, Mr Ross Fielding said that while most in-car GPS devices already offer traffic applications, this new function has never been accessible on Australian mobile phones.

“Telstra has partnered with the Australian Traffic Network (ATN) – the same group who provide detailed traffic reports to many radio and television news stations – so Telstra customers are getting the same real time traffic reports to guide them away from major incidents,” says Fielding.

In addition to voice-guided and traffic directions, Whereis Navigator provides red camera alerts and thousands of points of interest. The service also offers integration with the user’s phone contacts, providing convenient directions to the address of a friend or business contact.

Whereis Navigator is available on a range of mobile handsets including:

Blackberry 8110 (Pearl)
Blackberry 8310 (Curve)
Blackberry 8800 (Huron)
Blackberry 9000 (Bold)
HTC Diamond
HTC Touch HD (Blackstone)

iMate 9502
Nokia N95 (no traffic)
