Apple’s new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are on track to beat last year’s iPhone opening weekend sales record, Apple has said in a statement provided to CNBC.Preorders for Apple’s next-gen iPhones opened over the weekend, with the 6s and 6s Plus slated to become available in countries including Australia from September 25.
“Customer response to iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been extremely positive and preorders this weekend were very strong around the world,” CNBC reported Apple as stating.
“We are on pace to beat last year’s 10 million unit first-weekend record when the new iPhones go on sale Sept. 25.”
Apple, however, has not provided any sales numbers, as it has done in previous years. Last year, Apple announced that it had topped 4 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus orders in the first 24 hours.
“As many customers noticed, the online demand for iPhone 6s Plus has been exceptionally strong and exceeded our own forecasts for the preorder period,” CNBC reported Apple as stating.
“We are working to catch up as quickly as we can, and we will have iPhone 6s Plus as well as iPhone 6s units available at Apple retail stores when they open next Friday.”
A key new feature of the 6s and 6s Plus – which are powered by the new 64-bit A9 chip – is Apple’s 3D touch tech, which senses pressure to enable new gestures.
