Next-Gen Samsung Smartwatch Could Sport A Circular Design

It appears that Samsung’s next-gen Gear smartwatch will be sporting a round face, with the tech giant apparently preparing to go for a more traditional watch face design in favour of the rectangular design of its previous offerings.Currently Motorola and LG are among the manufacturers to have circular-faced smartwatches on the market, while Apple’s recently released Apple Watch, by contrast, features a rectangular design.

Samsung is now seemingly set to release a circular-faced wearable of its own, with a recent image teasing at the design of the next-gen device.

The image, accompanying a Samsung blog post regarding the software development kit (SDK) for the device, features half of a round clock face, sporting the tagline “Get ready for the next Gear”.

Leading up to its release, Samsung is giving members of its global developer community early access to the SDK, noting that this marks the first time that it has released its wearable SDK for third-party developers in conjunction with the design and construction of its device before the product launch.

“Through thoughtful and progressive innovation, Samsung embraces open collaboration to enrich the application ecosystem and create unique user experiences for a smart, mobile life,”  JK Shin, Samsung Electronics CEO and head of IT & Mobile Communications, commented.
