Nikon Production And Supplies Impacted By Kumamoto Earthquakes

Nikon has advised of the delay of a number of new camera releases, with the suppliers of parts for Nikon products having been affected by a series of earthquakes that started on April 14 in Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan. The Coolpix A300 and B500 cameras, originally scheduled for release in April, will now be available in May, with the Coolpix A900 and B700, having also been slated for an April release, to arrive in July.

The Nikon KeyMission 360 action camera, scheduled for an autumn release, will now be available in October, with Nikon stating that more time is required for software adjustment.

Nikon has additionally advised that the Nikon DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85 f/1.8-2.8 and DL24-500 f/2.8-5.6 premium compact cameras will be delayed due to “serious issues with the integrated circuit for image processing”.

Originally scheduled for a June release, Nikon states that a new release date for these cameras has yet to be determined, with the information to be announced as soon as it is decided.

Nikon stated that parts suppliers for Nikon products, such as digital cameras with interchangeable lenses, interchangeable lenses and compact digital cameras, had been “affected by the series of earthquakes that started on April 14 in Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan”, which it stated “will inevitably impact our production and supplies”.

“We are currently investigating the situation, and we will announce the details as soon as they are confirmed,” Nikon stated.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers, business partners and all those who have expressed interest in these models for the delays. We are making every effort to bring these models to market at the earliest possible date without compromising on our standards and the total Nikon product experience.”
