Nikon’s Intro DSLR Gets A Significant Update

Nikon has unveiled a new DSLR camera that features a new imaging sensor and processing engine.

While other companies focus on mirrorless cameras, Nikon is happy honing its existing DSLR line up. Their latest addition, the D5200, is their new DSLR camera for beginners.

Nikon has managed to bring better quality photos by including their all-new DX-format CMOS sensor, which is capable of capturing 24.1 megapixel photos. They’ve also enhanced their Expeed 3 processing engine so that it outperforms the one featured in their flagship D4.

The D5200 has an ISO 100 to ISO 6400 range (Hi 2 will see that expanded to ISO 25600), has a class leading 39 auto-focus points and handles burst shots at up to 5 frames per second. The aspiring director will also appreciate its Full HD recording at 60i/50i, as they can add and tweak effects while shooting.

It is one of their smaller DSLR cams and to help photographers wield it at any angle, Nikon has included a 3 inch pivoting monitor. The monitor is a 921k-dot LCD screen and gracefully accommodates self-portraits.

Amongst the myriad of accessories Nikon offers, two stand out. The first is a wireless mobile adapter (WU-1a), which connects the D5200 with smartphones, and the second are all-new wireless remote controllers (WR-R10/WR-T10), which will help photographers snap footage from a distance. Both accessories are sold separately.

Unfortunately Nikon has abstained from announcing the D5200’s local pricing and availability. We’ll be sure to provide updates on any developments.
