No OZ Price Cut For Nintendo Wii

EXCLUSIVE: A 20% price cut announced by Nintendo for their popular Wii gaming console in the USA and Japanese markets, will not be passed on in Australia. Instead the Company is set to bundle additional games.

According to Greg Arthurton the Marketing Director of Nintendo Australia, the price of the Wii console which has a recommended retail price sticker of $399 will not change. Delivers great value” he said.

Currently the Nintendo Wii is $100 cheaper than the new slim Sony PS3 Playstation.

Nintendo embarrassed Sony by announcing the 20% price cut for the popular Wii as the head of Sony’s gaming division was presenting what has been described as a “lacklustre” keynote at the opening of the Tokyo Game show.

Nintendo’s strategic announcement of the price cut, which has been the subject of internet rumours for some weeks. The announcement off the price cut was timed to coincide precisely with the opening words of the Tokyo Game Show keynote speech of Kazuo Hirai, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment.

The decision by Nintendo mirrors the decision taken by Sony earlier this when the price of the PS3 was slashed globally but not in Australia. Competition between Sony Microsoft and Nintendo has been intense with Nintendo holding onto their number one position despite intense competition from Sony and Microsoft who have both been forced to slash prices.
