HTC executives attending the launch of their new 4G Velocity on the Telstra network have said that the Taiwanese handset maker will not enter the tablet market in Australia.Taiwanese executives at CES said recently that the Company plans to cut back on the amount of phones they will present to Australian carriers but they have promised a “stunning new smartphone” which is tipped to be revealed at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona in February.
HTC’s problems started last year after fourth quarter income dropped by over 25%, with the Company admitting that they were launching “far too many smartphones”. In Australia the original HTC Sensation was released in May followed by the HTC Sensation XE in September, and the HTC Sensation XL in November. Consumers also had the choice of Beats Audio Technology in an HTC Sensation.
Speaking to Mobile Today recently, the head of HTC UK Phil Roberson said the company will be “giving our customers something special” this year.
“We have to get back to focusing on what made us great – amazing hardware and a great customer experience,” Roberson said.
“We ended 2011 with far more products than we started out with. We tried to do too much.”
