The figures, reportedly sent by Nokia to record labels and distributors, show the service had only 107,000 active users in nine nations in July compared with as many as 100 million for Apple’s iTunes.
And 23,000 of them or almost one in five were in Australia, where the Comes With Music service was launched in April. Only the UK had more active
users: 32,728.
Singapore, where the service was launched in February, had 19,318 users, Mexico 16,344, Brazil 10,809. Then came Germany 2573, Sweden 1101 and Switzerland just 560.
Comes With Music allows subscribers to legally download more than six million tracks and keep them forever. However it works only with a small number of Nokia mobiles.
