Nuance Speech Recognition Software Upgrade

Speech and imaging solutions provider, Nuance has introduced its latest version of speech recognition software for Windows, Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9, which it claims delivers up to 99 percent accuracy.

“With the new release, we have overcome the final obstacles to adoption and made speech as seamless as the keyboard and mouse, creating a superior, more productive experience that will introduce new generations of users to speech recognition,” Nuance CEO, Paul Ricci.

According to Nuance, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 supports almost all Windows applications and instantly turns the natural voice into text or commands at speeds up to 160 words per minute with accuracy levels that can reach 99 percent. The company also said the new release also removes one of the most significant issues that has caused many people to resist even trying speech recognition – ‘training’ or ‘enrollment’ – which is essentially “training” the software to recognize your voice by reading specific scripts. Nuance said this is not necessary with version 9.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 also supports Bluetooth headsets and microphones, as well as Tablet PCs. The software comes in three versions; for professional use, for the PC enthusiast and for the casual home PC user.

“For me personally, one of the most satisfying aspects to using Dragon NaturallySpeaking is to be able to capture thoughts and concepts quickly. To watch slabs of accurate text appearing on-screen is psychologically very satisfying, especially for someone like me who has not learnt to type. I recognised many years ago there had to be a better way – and there is!” said Ian Wilson, Executive Director of Boyden, Sydney.

RRPs:
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Standard – RRP AUD$200
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Preferred – RRP AUD$400
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Preferred Mobile (with Philips recorder) – RRP AUD$750
