One In Ten Adults Owns A Digital Camera

Australians spent $171 million on almost two million digital still cameras last year, which is the equivalent of one sale per every 10 adults, which is a five per cent increase compared with the year before, according to the latest Canon Digital Lifestyle Index (CDLI).

All-in-One printers have also experienced increased demand with sales rising 17 per cent, indicating that family activities such as scrapbooking are encouraging consumers to be more creative with their pictures, according to Canon.

The company says improvements in the functionality of entry-level products and the ongoing decline in the average price of digital cameras and printers ensure families purchase the latest gadgets.

“Photo-mad Australians are winning in two ways,” said Canon CDLI ink printing product manager, KC Lu.

“While cameras and printers are more affordable than ever, consumers are also reaping the rewards of ongoing functional improvements and features. These improvements and features have given the All-in-One printer segment a life of its own.

“The category is experiencing a rise in acceptance as consumers discover these printers are just as simple to use as single-function printers. In particular, the first half of this year saw the PIXMA MP610 sales (mid-range All-in-One) double when compared to a similar model last year.”

Canon also predicts that it will become more common for consumers to own more than one printer, due to falling costs and increased versatility.
