New figures out from the US show that online video content viewing is up considerably for the month of January.According to ComScore, 83.5 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed online video content, while Nielson said the amount of time spent by Americans viewing video on PC/Mac/laptops from home and work locations increased by 45%.
Nielson says the number of unique online video viewers only increased by 3.1% from last January, however, the level of activity was up as viewers streamed 28% more video with the number of total video streams growing significant year-on-year, up 31.5% to 14.5 billion streams.
Both research firms cite Google sites grabbing the top spot for online video content viewing driven mainly by YouTube.
Comscore said 144.1 million unique viewers downloaded content from Google sites, while Nielson cited YouTube as registering 112.7 million unique visitors.
According to ComScore, VEVO and Yahoo! sites came in second and third, with 51.0 million viewers and 48.7 million viewers resepectively, followed by Viacom Digital, and AOL, while Nielson put VEVO down in the third spot with 32.2 million viewers and Facebook just marginally ahead with 32.2 million unique visitors.
