Optus who earlier this month were labelled as delivering the slowest 3G iPhone service in the world has been forced to dump their much heralded Fusion 3G broadband service due to capacity and congestion problems on their 3G network.

Optus who earlier this month were labelled as delivering the slowest 3G iPhone service in the world has been forced to dump their much heralded Fusion Wireless 3G broadband service due to capacity and congestion problems on their 3G network.

Launched in August the $79 service included a broadband service, unlimited landline calls as well as calls to Optus mobile.

During the past few months Optus has been plagued with network problems with hundreds of businesses threatening to sue the Singapore owned carrier due to hours of downtown across the Optus network.

Optus is also the largest partner in the Terria consortium that trying to convince the Federal Government that they can deliver a new broadband network for Australia.

Dropped after only 4 weeks in the market, Optus said at the Fusion launch that they were set to mount a major attack on the fixed telecommunications market with the launch of Optus Fusion – “Australia’s first combined phone and broadband cap”.

Warren Hardy, Managing Director, Optus Consumer claimed that Optus Fusion was “a powerful demonstration that Optus is committed to offering new and existing customers sensational value, while we continue to grow our fixed subscriber base and improve our scale on the Optus network”

Seriously embarrassed an Optus spokesperson told ChannelNews and SmartHouse that the suspended service only relates to sales of Optus Wireless Fusion and that the the decision to suspend sales of Optus Wireless Fusion was to ensure that Optus could delivers an optimum experience to customers using the product.

Optus also said that they will continue to sell Optus Wireless Broadband and Optus Wireless Telephony.

Tests conducted by SmartHouse Vs offering from other carriers showed that the Optus Fusion offering was extremely slow. Earlier this month Optus suffered the embarrassment of been labelled as delivering the slowest 3G iPhone service in the world.
