Optus Brings Data-Free Music Streaming To Prepaid Plans

Optus is introducing data-free music-streaming for its prepaid mobile customers, with the offer to apply to a number of popular streaming services on selected prepaid plans.Streaming services covered by the offer include iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora and Guvera, providing users access without eating into their data allowances.

The offer is set to apply for new and existing customers on My Prepaid Ultimate, My Prepaid Daily Plus and other selected plans from May 2.

“Music is the next pillar in Optus’ strategy to deliver game-changing entertainment experiences for customers,” Ben White, Optus managing director of marketing and product, commented.

“This builds on our growing content portfolio of Yes TV with Fetch, which includes more than 35 premium channels and access to streaming services like Netflix and Stan, as well as exclusive cricket content and the English Premier League.”

White noted that “it makes sense for Optus to partner with some of the most sought-after streaming services”, citing statistics showing “78 per cent of 16-34 year olds already enjoying music streaming”.

“Although Australia is a nation of music lovers, we know that data is the number one barrier for Optus customers when it comes to music streaming,” he commented.

“We’re confident these plans will break down the data barrier and convince more Aussies to try music streaming with Optus prepaid.”

Optus will additionally provide access to over 20 live music events each year via partnerships with Universal Music and iHeartRadio Australia.

Optus stated it will also provide access to partner-generated editorial and video content, along with online experiences, music news, footage of live performances, and will host social content, and will offer 15 per cent discounts off music products via a customised music store.
