Optus iPad Data Deals Cheaper Than Telstra

Optus data deals for the new Apple iPad are set to be cheaper than Telstra Next G deals according to new iPad data plans released today.

In what is set to be a brutal carrier battle to sell data plans to Apple iPad customers, Optus has come in with an offer of  $20 for 2GB while Telstra is charging $20 for 1 GB. The iPad will go on sale on May 28th in a two model format. The Wi-fi only model will sell for $629. Pricing for the 3G enabled model is set to be announced tomorrow.
Optus is also offering a 3 month data plan Vs a one month $20 for 1GB data plan from Telstra.
Other Optus costs are $20 for 2GB, $30 for 3GB and $60 for 8GB. Telstra data costs are 3GB will cost $30, 6GB, $60, and 9GB $80.
These are almost identical to the ‘BYO deals’ which the carrier already offers to customers who supply their own USB modem or 3G laptop. 
“Telstra’s pricing for iPad 3G gives customers control and flexibility to access the Internet on-the-go while connected to the Telstra Next G network,” Telstra Mobility Products executive director Ross Fielding said in a statement.
JB Hi Fi executives have told ChannelNews that they will sell both the iPad and a Telstra data plan in a combined package. 
The iPad can be pre-ordered from Monday through Apple’s online store and it will be available through Apple resellers on May 28.
