Christmas is coming and Optus are hoping tabs will make it very fat. It has just launched two fresh Android tabs – Dell Streak 7 and Acer Iconia A501 as Telstra announced Apple iPad 2 Xmas deals, last week.
Optus are not selling iPad 2 but is offering data plans of $19 a month with 2GB data.

Dell’s 7 inch Streak runs Honeycomb 3.2 and packs a punch with with NVIDIA Tegra T20 dual Core processor, 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash, and 16GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB with SD Card.

The 3G ready tablet also travels well, weighing in at 450g.

The Dell can be bought $0 upfront on the $29 Optus Tablet plan over 24 months and costs $279 SIM card with start-up credit.

So how does this compare with Telstra 9.7″ iPad 2 offering?

16GB iPad 2 starts at $49 for 1GB and costs $720 outright (plus $30 Telstra Pre-Paid micro-SIM card) – more than double the price of the Dell outright.

Vodafone are offering 16GB iPad 2 starting at $15 per month plus $30 for the tablet for 1.5GB data and goes up to $59 (+ $30) for 18 GB allowance.

Optus’ the second Android alternative to Apple, the 10.1″ Acer Iconia Tab A501 also runs Honeycomb 3.2 dual-core and sports NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

The Acer also comes with a bundle of connectivity ports: mini HDMI, USB, Micro SD and is available in both 16 and 32 GB storage models, Flash 10.2 support as well as its 3G HSPA+ module offering 21Mpbs downlink.

Sporting a high-resolution screen and ultra-sensitive gyro meter, the Iconia Tab A501 is a “formidable” gaming device, say Optus.

The Iconia costs $0 upfront on Optus $39 Tablet plan over 24 months (total minimum cost is $936).

“The Streak 7 is a great device for portable use as it’s just so light and nimble while the Iconia showcases an impressive host of design features along with practicality,” says Gavin Williams,  Optus Consumer Marketing.

“We’re excited to range these two excellent devices in the lead up to Christmas to maximise the choice for customers looking to treat themselves or other.”
